About the method

A practical Qibla finder, explained clearly

The purpose is simple: give a direct Qibla bearing, show how to apply it, and be honest about the limits of a phone compass.

What the Qibla finder calculates

The tool takes your latitude and longitude and calculates the initial bearing to the Kaaba coordinates 21.4225° N, 39.8262° E. The bearing follows the shortest great-circle route over Earth and is expressed clockwise from true north. It also reports the great-circle distance to Makkah.

Why the degree matters more than the animation

The mathematical bearing and the live arrow are separate. The bearing comes from coordinates. The arrow comes from a phone’s orientation sensors, which can be affected by steel, magnets, wiring and calibration. Showing the degree lets you verify the answer with a north-up map or physical compass even when the arrow is unstable.

How city directions are prepared

Each city page uses a precomputed great-circle bearing and distance from the city centre to the same Kaaba coordinates. A city result is a practical local reference, not a substitute for exact coordinates when marking a specific building.

What the tool does not claim

A browser cannot turn a phone into survey equipment or remove magnetic interference from the room. Camera and AR views also depend on the same underlying sensors. For a permanent mosque or construction project, a qualified local survey is the appropriate method.

Who maintains this site

Qibla Finder is maintained by the Qibla Finder team — a small, independent team responsible for the tool, the city bearings and the guides published here. Bearings are recomputed from the published Kaaba coordinates, guides are reviewed against the method described above, and corrections are welcomed through the contact page.

Built around the questions people actually have

The live tool answers the immediate direction question. The supporting guides explain calibration, true north, Google Maps, app choice, offline use and travel. City pages give a reusable bearing when location access is unavailable.
